Arrival: What needs to be done

  • The first point of call is your local immigration authority
    • You will be registered here. This registration is required if you need social welfare benefits such as financial support, medical care or accommodation. Refugees will also receive important information at this office, e.g. for taking up employment.

  • Accommodation
    • The social welfare office “Sozialamt” in the respective administrative and urban districts is the point of call for accommodation. Municipal accommodation, such as apartments, beds in hotels, youth hostels and also in reception centres for immigrants, is currently being allocated. In addition, there are also various platforms where people offer private accommodation. These platforms include Host4Ukraine, Elinor Network or Warmes Bett.

  • Medical care
    • In urgent cases, the emergency departments of hospitals are available to you. If you have any questions concerning benefits, please contact the social welfare office.
    • Where do I find family doctors (GPs), gynaecologists, paediatricians, psychotherapists – one way to search is via the Portal der Kassenärztlichen Vereinigung in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern (Association of Statutory Health Insurance Physicians). The results also show the languages spoken by the physicians (page only in German). Refugees, also including many traumatised children, need help to process what they have been through. Therefore, there are psychosocial counselling offers and the hotline for pupils: 0385 588 7777.
    • When it comes to making vaccination appointments, the vaccination centres are available in addition to GPs‘ surgeries to administer injections for protection against Corona.
