Health and long-term care insurance

Health insurance covers much of the costs when you are sick and for preventive healthcare (dental care, for example), for rehabilitation, and for the birth of your children. Germany has mandatory universal health insurance. Most people are insured through statutory health insurance and thus automatically also have long-term care insurance.

Tip:

If you have your own company, you are free to decide whether you want to be insured through statutory or private health insurance. Private health insurers often differ in their premiums and benefits – get more information and always compare several offers! If you have private health insurance, you first pay for doctor's visits and medication yourself and then have the bills reimbursed by your private health insurer. You also need to take out private long-term care insurance.
